The following contains some advice about animal jam from me to you. Things like how to get rares, and how to avoid being scammed. Enjoy! Who knows, it might just answer your question! :D

I want rares now!

Wowe there. That's a big request. These kind of things take time, however you can start right now by buying a lot of items on clearance. When items in stores say "Clearance", it means that they will probably be taken out of stores by the next update. You may think that it doesn't even matter, but trust me. I joined when wooden televisions were in stores. They went on clearance, and look at them now! Very rare.
To get rares faster, you need to trade. You might just get/do one lucky trade that gets you a good rare! That rare can be traded for more rares, and more and more, and pretty soon you'll have bunches! However overall, give it time.

How to avoid being scammed

To scam is to rip someone off of their item. One of the earliest scams was, "send me this and I'll send you that". Technically, scamming is when someone takes your item, and then gives you nothing in return like they promised.
You might think, "use the trade system!" That is partly true, but you can get scammed through the trade system too! Like, "i decline all trades" could be a possible scam, or, "trade me this and i promise i will trade you this other item for it back!". Sometimes, people even say, "trade me rares for this necklace and it will turn into a top hat!"
Overall, to avoid being scammed, directly trade for the item you want. Don't let people scam you through the mail or the trade system. Just trade exactly what you want to trade directly for the item you want, and no going around.

Making Friends

Sometimes it may seem awkward to have to meet someone, but it's really quit easy. A lot of ways i have made friends was simply by responding to some silly thing they said out in Coral Canyons or where ever. we then strike up a conversation, and then bingo! We were best friends!
You can also make a good friend by even asking what they want for a item on their trade list or going to one of their parties. If you want to help someone to make a buddy, invite them over to your den and introduce them to another one of your other buddies. That has happened to me plenty of times! Some of my best friends today i met thanks to another buddy introducing me. What other coincidences can cause you to make best friends? The possibilities are endless!

Keeping Friends

Making friends and then keeping them is two different things. As mentioned earlier, sometimes we have a really good talk and buddy each other, but then after that point, we never talk again. This is why it's important to visit your buddies regularly, or you will become as cold and ice to each other! If you decide that you haven't talked in too long and want to delete them from your buddy list, i suggest trying to talk to them once more, if they come on regularly. If you have tried and they don't really seem to pay attention or care about you, then you have every right to delete them. just remember, visit each other regularly!
you also need to be kind. I bet you're very nice to your buddies, but there are all times where we have a moment, me included. Just try to always be kind, but if your buddy says something a little rude, try to change the subject to avoid a fight. If they still don't want to change the subject, you have a right to defend yourself, but try not to get to rude about it, or it will only make things worse! If a buddy makes you feel uncomfortable in any way, you have a right to protect yourself and delete them. Try to resist saying things that you know your buddy won't be comfortable about. Different buddies are comfortable with different things! What you and another buddy could find hilarious they could find offensive, so get to know them first before joking around like some people do. It could chase them away from you! First impressions are good for getting to know them well. Take a look at how they first greeted you, and from that you can already determine a lot about how they will be like. Remember, treat others the way you would like to be treated! That is the key to keeping your friends!

Should i dress "rare"?

That's truly up to you. It can be fun to put on your best rares, and hang out with the "cool people", but remember this too: do you WANT to look this way? Are you just doing it because others will like you? Remember, some of these OTHER people only look at you for what you for the rare that you wear, so if you loose that rare one day, they won't want to talk to you, so why even bother?
Dress the way your heart desires. A good way to decide how you want to truly look is to remember what your first outfit ever looked like. Think of the theme and the colors. A lot of times, your first ideas before you're mind is fogged with expectations and choices is the idea you truly want to go with.

I'm bored on animal jam right now

 I hear you, and I'm asking myself the same question. This might sound totally lame, but do you have a favorite arcade game to play? Sky high is a boredom buster; it takes up time, gives you items (sometimes rares like nm bat wings), and gives you a lot of money! Arcade games is something i usually do when I'm bored.
You could also go to or throw a party! Trading, betting, dancing, etc. To make it even more fun, choose a THEME for your party! For example, i once did a "enchanted forest trading party", and it was VERY popular! In fact, my den became full!
You could also try to make some friends! (post on tips to make good buddies above) A best friend can be made in the least expected areas.
..And one of my all time favorites when I'm bored: running around to random places with a very noticeable hat (like bunny hats on foxes or reindeer antlers on bunnies) and say random things. Believe it or not, you can make good friends that way too!
